How long can I keep soft cosmetic lenses, if used sparingly?

I have a pair of colored/cosmetic soft lenses (no grade). I plan to wear them on special occasions only. Is it ok to keep them as long as they are ok to wear? Or is there an expiration, regardless of how often you use it? I'm talking about wearing them maybe once or twice a month. How long can I keep soft cosmetic lenses, if used sparingly?
I believe there is an expiry date, but I have been using a pair of soft lenses occasionally now for over 5 years. My optician was a bit horrified when I told him, but I have had no problems. The main thing is they must be scrupulously clean; re-wash every 2-3 days and put in fresh sterilising solution every time. Do NOT use water - only use recommended saline and cleanser solutions. Just remember your eyes are precious and there are some very mean bacteria out there that can cause blindness. If you leave your lenses in the same solution for too long the bacteria will multiply! Also make sure you have regular eye-health checks. How long can I keep soft cosmetic lenses, if used sparingly?
The contact lenses you have will determine how long they last.Even though you don't use them on a regular basis 6 mos is the longest amount of time that you should be using your contacts for.Even though they may not be in your eyes the lens will still deteriorate and develop protien buildup internally over time.Back in the days we used enzymes pills but nowadays the anti protein solutions offered are meant to operate from 3 mos to 6 mos if you have lenses rated for that period of time. Most lenses are meant to be used up to a month unless they are vial type lenses rated for the longer period of time. But as a rule of thumb when the contacts start irritating your eyes shortly after putting them in you probably need them changed.Careful investigation will probably show that the lenses have little white spots within the lenses themselve and thats the protien buildup.. but its always good to check with the Opt if in doubt..
i have prescription contacts, since i wear them all the time, im sure since you wear them one or twice you can keep them. just make sure they're in contact solution 24/7 unless they're not in your eyes
